Oakland Small Businesses May Get Tax Break
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, with Councilmembers Unger and Ramachandran, push to pass June 2026 ballot measure to give tax relief to small and new businesses.

The proposed measure includes two main pieces: ending the gross receipts tax in 2027 for businesses under $1 million in sales, and a tax exemption of up to $1 million for new Oakland business locations.
The goal is to help small businesses, bring new investment into the city, and keep Oakland competitive. City and business leaders say this plan will strengthen local neighborhoods and support long-term economic growth.
