Remembering Dolores Huerta: A Legacy of Courage, Justice, and Service

The Oakland Latino Chamber of Commerce joins the Latino community and the nation to mourn the passing of Dolores Huerta, the pioneering labor leader, civil rights activist, and co-founder of the United Farm Workers, who died on October 28, 2026, at the age of 96. Throughout her remarkable life, Huerta dedicated herself to improving the lives of farmworkers, advocating for social justice, and advancing opportunities for women, immigrants, and working families.

Together with César Chávez, Huerta helped build one of the most influential labor movements in American history, securing better wages, safer working conditions, and greater dignity for agricultural workers. Huerta’s impact extended far beyond labor rights. She championed voting rights, educational equity, women’s leadership, immigrant justice, and civic participation.

Dolores Huerta’s vision, determination, and commitment to justice will continue to inspire future generations of Latino leaders, advocates, and community builders.
